What happens when a mirror is not manufactured, but painted?

Fritz Anton has spent over a year researching the chemistry behind historical silver mirror techniques, ultimately developing his own process — one that allows him to apply real, reflective silver directly onto bare glass with a brush. The mirror exists only where the brush has been. Everything else remains transparent.

The result is something that resists easy categorisation. These are not paintings of mirrors, nor mirrors decorated with paint. They are surfaces that are simultaneously image and reflection — works that change with the light, the angle, and the person standing in front of them.

By layering multiple treated glass panels, Fritz introduces depth: reflections caught within reflections, the viewer's image fragmenting and multiplying across planes. You are in the work whether you intend to be or not.

This is also the conceptual core. A mirror never shows us who we are — only who we are in this particular moment, in this particular light. The partial reflection is not a flaw. It is the point.
