Fritz Anton (*1996, Hohenems) is a Vienna-based artist working across painting and experimental media. Trained in architecture at TU Wien, he came to painting entirely self-taught — driven by curiosity rather than convention.
At the core of his work is a visual language built on flowing, interlocking forms: dense, organic lines that accumulate into figures, masses, and moods. These Swirls — bold, instinctive, and immediately recognisable — have become his signature. Each form is painted in more or less a single continuous motion, the brush lifts just a few times until a shape is complete. Working at large scale, Fritz has also learned to work with gravity: drips and runs are never corrected, accepted as honest collaborators in the final piece.
In a parallel body of work, Fritz spent over a year researching and experimenting with historical silver mirror techniques, eventually developing his own process, which allows him to paint real silver mirrors onto bare glass. Wherever the brush touches the surface, a reflective layer forms — and nowhere else. The resulting works change with every viewer and every encounter, reflecting not only the surrounding space but also the fleeting nature of self-perception. We never encounter ourselves as a whole, only as a fragment of who we happen to be in that moment.
Fritz Anton has exhibited internationally, including at the Woods Art Institute Hamburg, the Vienna Ballhaus and Gallery Gleis 4 in Basel.
